Fibre Arts Festival

Fibre artists from across Canada and around the GTA will be "Painting The Town Red" during the 4th Annual Fibre Arts Festival being held from May 12 to 29 in Oakville.

Special guest speakers include two well-known fibre artists: Barbara Klunder, who will speak at the Trafalgar Room at Town Hall on Saturday, May 14 from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.  and Lorraine Roy, who will also speak at the Trafalgar Room at Town Hall on Sunday May 15 from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

The Festival, a collaborative project of the Oakville Arts Council and the Oakville Fibre Guilds, has been growing every year since its inception in 1999.   This year, there will be exhibitions at nine venues including:

·      Common Thread, a juried show- May 12 to 29 at the Sheridan ITAL Gallery, 1430 Trafalgar Road, 905-845-9430. Opening May 12 from 7-9 p.m.

·      Stitching The Town Red – Opening Reception on May 13 from 6-10 p.m. at The Red Thread Gallery, 41 Lakeshore Road West.
·      Illuminated Threads, Vol. 2, hand-embroidered stories by artist Jane Coryell - May 12-18 at The Silver Thimble Needlepoint, 64 Rebecca Street, 905-845-6461.  Opening reception: Saturday, May 14 from 3-5 p.m.

·      Guilded Threads, recent works from Oakville's five Fibre Arts Guilds featuring the unveiling of a collaborative work-May 12 to 19 at Oakville Town Hall, 1225 Trafalgar Road, 905-845-6601.  Opening reception: May 15 from 3-5 p.m.

·      Remnants of History: Quilts from the Oakville Museum Collection – May 14 to 29 at the Oakville Museum, 8 Navy Street, 905-338-4400.  Opening: May 14 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

·      New Works by Lorraine Roy – May 12 to 26 at Ristorante Julia, 312 Lakeshore Road East, 905-844-7401. Opening reception on May 14 from 3 to 4 p.m.

·      Traveling Threads: fabric collage landscapes by Marie Kajdasz; hand-embroidered scenes by Jane Coryell and concepts in textiles by Barbara Klunder- May 12 to 21 at the Abbozzo Gallery, 179 Lakeshore Road East, 905-844-4481.  Opening reception: May 13 from 7-10 p.m.

·      Fibre Warriors: Fuzzy Painting by Wendo Van Essen; Peculiar Creatures by Magda Trzaski; Printed cityscapes by Corianna Sherwood and Atmospheric Constructions by Kristina Webb – May 12 to 29 at the Cicada Gallery, 344 Kerr Street, 905-842-0493.  Opening reception: May 14 from 3 to 6 p.m.

·      The 4th Annual Fibre Arts Festival is organized in cooperation with Oakville's five fibre arts guilds.
