World of Threads: Threads of Remembrance- Embroidered postcards from WW1

The biennial World of Threads festival opened with a national premiere last Friday, entitled "Threads of Remembrance".
The collection of hand-stitched World War 1 postcards is owned by Oakville resident Liz Benneian (left), who has been collecting them for several years.

Originally drawn to them while working for a Canadian Forces newspaper in Germany, Benneian makes use of e-Bay to increase her collection, already several hundred strong.  The collection made its first appearance, and to Benneian's knowledge the only Canadian collection of the cards ever shown, at Sheridan College.

Dozens of works of textile arts are being displayed through Oakville as part of the World of Threads.  For a complete listing of artists, sponsors and locations visit online at www.worldofthreads2007.cachelan.com.
