The Common Thread International exhibitions are the flagship shows of the World of Threads Festival. The intention is to bring international contemporary fibre art to Oakville and the Toronto area and highlight the strength of our local artists.

This is an opportunity to provide exposure for emerging, mid career or established artists to showcase their work in this unique Canadian fibre arts festival. The work submitted to this category will enter a "pool" of work. Multiple curators from several different galleries in Oakville and Toronto will view the work and select pieces or installations they want to exhibit.

Three Options for Submitting

Each piece must also be accompanied by a detail image for a total of 20 images.

Fees for Artists

Please pay close attention to the fee structure.

Submission Fee: $30

To submit there is a $30 fee. This fee covers a maximum of ten pieces (10 full images and 10 details).

This covers our costs and time for processing the submissions and working with the multiple galleries and curators. If you would like to submit an additional round of pieces you may do another submission by paying an additional $30.

Exhibition Fees (Only for Artists Who Are Selected)

Because we are a not-for-profit organization run by volunteers and we don't have the revenue of a gallery, we need to charge exhibition fees to run a festival of this scope. Instead of having high submission fees, we are instead charging only the artists who are actually selected to exhibit. The fee for selected work will be based on the criteria below. We may decide to exhibit one or more of your artworks or installations. Should multiple pieces be selected by Festival Curators, an additional fee applies for each artwork or installation selected.

Which category a work falls into is at the discretion of the Festival Chair.

Selected Work           Exhibition Fee
Small piece    $30 per piece
Large piece    $60 per piece
Small Installation   $100
Large Installation   $200

Shipping
Shipping charges (to and from) are the full responsibility of the Artist.  Please refer to Frequently Asked Questions on our website for some pointers regarding shipping.

Insurance
The World of Threads Festival does NOT insure artwork.  You are responsible for your own insurance and this must include during inbound shipping, during installation and exhibition and during outbound shipping.

Commission
For sales, the commission depends on the particular gallery where you will exhibit. If you are represented exclusively by an Ontario gallery you will need to negotiate with the gallery where you will be exhibiting about commissions. The Festival will not handle this aspect.

Upon Selection

Upon seeing the work in person, should a curator decide that the work does not match the submitted image or is inappropriate for the exhibition, we reserve the right not to exhibit the work. Should this occur, you will be refunded your Exhibition Fee, but not your shipping costs.

Disclaimer: If you are accepted into the festival you give us permission to use your images and our photographs of your work on our website and in promotional material for the festival in perpetuity.

All decisions made by the galleries and/or Festival Curators are final.
