Quilters at Erchless

Charles Demuth's "I saw the Figure 5 in Gold", 1928 was the inspiration for this unique and incredible piece of art work of by the Oakville inter-guilds for the World of Threads Fibre Festival.  Chair Jane Coryell orchestrated this replication of Charles Demuth's original, which hangs in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.  The mystery behind this masterpiece was that the five Oakville Guilds were given a few pieces of the puzzle to be completed in the guild's specific medium.  No guild member was given the complete piece of Demuth's art and were to follow instructions in secrecy.  The completed piece is now on display at Erchless Estate until September 25 with the museums (sic) Remnants of History.  Councillor Marc Grant has purchased the interguilds's replication.  Above, from left, are Councillor Marc Grant with Jane Coryell.  In the back row, from left, are Paula Barbaric, Phyllis Parish, Judy Holkim, Janet Rhind, Kim Kernohan, Barbara Godfrey and Val Garnett.  Sitting, from left, are Mary Kroestch, Nancy Fischer, Kim Kawasoe, Beryl Durraut, Anne Harrison and Judith Crosbie.
